St Pete Beach fireworks accident typical of a growing fireworks problem
MONTGOMERY COUNTY FIRE FIRE ACCIDENT BURNS BABY
When a 4-month-old baby can get serious body burns just by being near a fireworks display, you know something is wrong with the safety precautions that are put in place at fireworks displays across the United States in these days. In Montgomery County, near Houston, TX, on July 4, the baby who suffered from this horrible accident was in his blanket 30 feet away from where the fireworks were going off. One of the aerial projectiles from one of the mortar tubes that was firing the fireworks into the night sky went sideways instead of up and landed on this baby’s blanket and set it on fire.
The baby suffered second- and third-degree burns to her arms and legs, causing her parents much anguish and heart ache on July 4, a truly horrible end to what should be a day of celebration. The parents had to take their son to the North Montgomery County Fire Department fire station, where paramedics had to treat the baby for fire burns before taking her to a memorial hospital where she is still treated.
S T. PETE BEACH FIREWORKS ACCIDENTS DAMAGE TO 12 PEOPLE
When a set of engines that were being used to set off dozens and dozens of huge fireworks in the St. Pete Beach area of Florida was turned off, 12 people who were in the area to watch the fireworks display were burned when the burning gunpowder and mortar that was emitted in the subsequent explosion fell on them.
The explosion also blew out some of the windows of the nearby Hotel Bon Aire. Four of the hotel workers were also injured, along with two other people who had to be rushed to a nearby hospital where they were treated for third-degree burns.
MELVINDALE FIREWORKS ACCIDENT RESULTED IN DEATH
Commercial-grade fireworks appear to be to blame for the death of a Detroit resident, Danialle Barse, 27, when she received a blow to the head after a firework that was fired through a mortar tube from 3 inches will deviate. The deadly fireworks were launched violently off course and flew into the air towards where Danialle was standing in a nearby parking lot when on duty working at the car wash located there.
Her 8-year-old son also witnessed this tragedy while it was happening, making this particular fireworks accident especially sad. A federal investigation has been launched to try to understand the exact cause of this horrible accident. The fireworks device in question is a box of 25 high-impact fireworks that were designed to explode in sequence in a grand finale that everyone expected. This latest fireworks accident is just one of the worst-case scenarios that happened this year more than any other.
FIREWORKS ACCIDENT IN MIAMI KANSAS COUNTY DEADS ONE MAN
Brock Barrett, a 25-year-old man from Kansas, was trying to have a good time this July 4 holiday when he was lighting a 4-inch mortar of fireworks that exploded in his face. I was at a family party around 9pm on Tuesday when this explosion happened.
These incidents should serve as a reminder that fireworks should never be treated like toys. They can be as deadly as a shotgun blast aimed at your face if proper precautions are not taken. Hopefully July 4, 2008 does a lot better for you when it comes to preventing fireworks accidents that result in burns and death.
