Life in the city after years in the country

Retiring to live on a farm in the country was like living in an earthly paradise. The rural way of life exists at a slower pace, achieved without the rush of living in the city. The neighbors are kind and caring and the houses are not built on top of each other. Generally, the lifestyle is much more relaxed and informal than that of city life.

Life in the country provides fresh and healthy air. Savor the luxury of calm and melodious views across endless stretches of open land.

The usual daily sights for one to contemplate and enjoy are scenes of sheep nibbling everything they can find in the fields to eat, as well as cows happily lazing in the sun.

The eye sees acres of wheat gently blown away by the wind, as well as tractors slowly plowing fields in preparation for planting crops. At harvest time there is a lot of activity as farmers hastily harvest wheat, canola or other crops before they become too dry.

All of this provides a peace of mind that is preferable to the noise emitted by cars accelerating as fast as possible on busy city roads. A life like this is a blessing, but like all good things that come to an end. Sadly, you may continue to stay in the country to come to an end for one reason or another.

Returning to the city can be quite a traumatic experience. The different ways and lifestyles of the people you meet can certainly give you a jolt. In the country people have time for you while in the city the daily demands do not encourage long conversations or unscheduled visits. Certainly, no one comes for a cup of tea and a cookie without a prior invitation.

However, it doesn’t take long to adjust to the hustle and bustle and different styles of everyday life. You even learn to disconnect from constantly hearing the repetitive barking of neighboring dogs or the noise of planes landing or taking off at a nearby airport.

Spending time catching up on news from past friends and enjoying a cup of coffee in the malls now offers many enjoyable interludes. In addition, now there is the opportunity to go to the cinema or to see theatrical shows. Visits to art galleries and museums are limited when living in the country and easily accessible when living in a city. So, after all, there is a lot to be gained from living in the city!
