Keyword Analysis: Goodbye Captcha and 100 Limit!

Many SEOs when asked what keyword tool they use (not considering professional SEO software) will immediately tell you “Google AdWords Keyword Tool!” No doubt, this search instrument has gained great popularity in the SEO industry as it helps to get the necessary keyword data in a structured way.

However, there is one interesting thing that not all people know about. The external keyword tool has limited functionality:

– Shows only 100 results (skipping some interesting key phrases that I’ll mention a bit later).

– Makes you type the CAPTCHA to make sure you are not an evil bot.

In fact, the solution to this problem is so simple that I can’t believe so many people still don’t know about it. So, to unlock the full functionality, you need:

1. Go to google.com and sign in to your account

2. Search for adwords.google.com/

3. You will then be redirected to the AdWords interface where you will need to configure a few settings including your preferred time zone and currency. Click Next.

4. Hooray! Your AdWords account has been created. Now all you need is to login.

5. That’s it. After you sign in, find the Tools & Analytics tab and choose the Keywords tool. You now have a fully functional tool that shows times more keywords for free. Although it lacks some cool features of professional SEO software, it’s still great for most marketers.

If you still have doubts about signing up, I’ll tell you a little experiment I’ve done. Let’s say I own an eCommerce store and I sell some kids stuff. And one big day I decide to invest in a new type of theme related to Alexander Milne’s great story, Winnie the Pooh. My first step is to analyze the search demand for this topic, so I go to the external keyword tool (no AdWords account) and get 100 keywords related to “Winnie the Pooh”.

winnie the pooh bedding

winnie the pooh dvd

winnie the pooh music

winnie the pooh baby shower

winnie the pooh costumes

winnie the pooh clock

winnie the pooh toy

It looks good, right? But wait, most of these keywords are marked with “High Competition”, which means that starting an ad campaign can be quite expensive.

Ok, now we are going to get more data to decide. I go into my AdWords account and run the same experiment with the same keyphrase. As a result, I get 800 (!) keywords, instead of 100. I love the idea of getting more information, as it gives me much more freedom with my subsequent actions. Let’s see, what else I found out:

winnie the pooh poetry – 1,600 searches

winnie the pooh coloring book – 1,900 searches

pooh puzzles – 3,600 searches

And much much more!

Also, these keywords are “low” in the competition, so it may save me some money.

Someone is probably also interested in misspellings and variations:

winniethepooh – 8,100 searches

win the pooh – 9,900 searches

Of course, it may not be mathematically correct, but eight times more keywords means eight times more ideas. Now the best thing to do is jump right into the action and find lots of super convertible new keywords!
