Xbox Three Red Rings of Death – Will the towel hack really fix your machine or is it a hoax?

You have heard about this problem for years. Due to some faulty parts, Xboxes tend to overheat and fail. This is commonly known as the “three rings of death”. You never thought it would happen to you, but it has finally happened to you. After the warranty is over, the gaming system has crashed and instead of seeing a green light, all you see are those spiteful red lights.

Now you can’t meet your friends online and play games. You cannot play any games period. For all practical purposes, your Xbox has given up. You’re going to have to find another way to pass the time. Just thinking about being bored is enough to drive you crazy. What are you going to do now?

Well, you can always go to Best Buy and buy a new Xbox. That is quite an expensive way to solve your problem and there is no guarantee that your new Xbox will not suffer from the same problem later on. You can send it to Microsoft and pay the $140 plus shipping to have it fixed. The problem with this is that aside from the money, you won’t have your game console for about eight weeks.

You need a way to fix your Xbox at home. You need it fixed right now. This has led many people to try the famous towel trick. There has been more than one case where the towel trick actually worked. This is what you have to do to use the towel trick.

• Disconnect all audio and video cables.
• remove the hard drive
• Turn on the console and wrap it comfortably in a towel. Make sure to cover the air vents.
• Let it act for 20 minutes. It has to get hot for this to work.
• Turn off the console and let it cool down for about ten minutes.
• Replace the hard drive and turn it on.
• It should be working now.

There are a couple of problems with this method. While it appears to work, the effects are only temporary. You should expect to see the red rings of death again in a few days. Another problem is that this will void your warranty if Microsoft finds out you did it. So if your machine is still under warranty, don’t try this.

There are several reports that this could cause a fire. Honestly, it won’t get hot enough in 20 minutes to start burning. With that said, be careful and watch your machine closely. If it starts to smoke, unplug it and grab the fire extinguisher.

In general, this method is not a very safe or effective method to use. At best, it’s just a temporary fix that will last a few days. Besides sending it in for repair, there’s a better way to fix your Xbox.

You can take your console apart and fix the problem yourself. It’s easy to do and just about anyone can do it. You need to find a repair manual and some videos to show you what to do.
