Why is Dora the Explorer so popular?
Parents with young children between the ages of 2 and 5 have been exposed in recent years to the mania of…you guessed it Dora the Explorer. You can watch it on tv and dvd. There are also countless Dora toys, clothes, and other household items. Once you know what to look for, it’s almost impossible to miss. Take her children to the store, they are not ashamed to point her out.
Since 2003, Dora and her friends have reached millions of homes around the world. With dozens of DVDs, in many different languages, and a host of merchandise, Dora is a must.
If you happen to have never heard of Dora or are looking to learn a little more, Dora started her career as a children’s show who was eager to help anyone in need or explore anywhere. She is usually accompanied by her best friend Boots of hers. Map and Backpack also make their way with Dora and Boots helping along the way to provide directions and tools to get from one place to another or overcome an obstacle.
As Dora makes her way, she usually runs into Swiper the Fox, who usually tries to swipe something and knock it over. Of course, she is always found and the journey continues. Dora’s friends also come over from time to time to help out. They include; Isa the iguana, Benny the bull and Tico the squirrel.
One of the reasons why the show is so popular is the fact that they try to get viewers to interact, sing, dance and answer questions. Dora also teaches Spanish, counting, teamwork, persistence and much more.
So what do others think about Dora the Explorer? Well, you may have guessed it. There are those who love it and those who hate it. The negative comments I’ve seen about Dora are that some people don’t like their kids asking for things in Spanish or that the show is too simplistic. Seems like a lot of the negatives were based on what an adult would find entertaining and not a child. Others did not like the bilingual aspect of the program. As for the positive feedback, a lot of people love it. Kids usually love it too. Children see them over and over again. The show is said to be wholesome, entertaining, and educational. Of course, tastes vary and there is no one program that satisfies everyone.
