How to make your website mobile friendly in 10 easy steps

Certainly cell phones and mobile devices have been taken. More and more people use these devices to communicate and do business. Your conventional websites will not work well with mobile devices. So what do you need to do to make your site mobile friendly and to grab the attention of everyone who uses mobile devices for business? You need to make your site mobile friendly.

It’s not that hard to do. I have put together the following 10 easy steps for you to follow. If you do each of these, your site will be mobile-optimized and no one will have a problem reaching or collaborating with you on a mobile device:

1. Keep your website simple, not flashy. A flashy website will not translate well on a mobile device. Keep things simple and follow the basic structure of the website.

2. Think about how your mobile customers will see your content on your site. Use a mobile device yourself to review your own site. You won’t know if your site is reaching them or not without checking.

3. Keep ads to a minimum. You may find that your ads are actually taking up too much space for mobile clients. You may want to move them to another area. Ads don’t work as well on a mobile device as they do on your website. Again, check how the ads look on a mobile device.

4. There is specialized coding you may need to do so that people can see your content correctly on a particular mobile platform. Your content should be in the optimal format for different mobile platforms.

5. Navigation works great on a mobile device. Consider using more navigation for your mobile site. Use short drop down menus. Make sure that when a customer chooses your dropdown, the specific dropdown takes them to the appropriate page. Do not add layers to your site. Take your customers directly to where they need to go based on your dropdown menu.

6. Keep your links short. If you’ve ever tried to send a text, you know that it can be challenging at times. While most people are getting really good at texting, it’s still troublesome to write those long links. Don’t irritate your customers. Make it a pleasant experience.

7. Put a post or set of posts on a page. This goes back to making your site as simple as possible. Keep your content organized and easy to read on these small mobile devices. I like to keep a post on each page.

8. Instead of having a common landing page, put your content on the first page. It’s always a good idea to keep the most important and up-to-date content at the beginning.

9. From time to time, links just don’t work correctly on a mobile-friendly site. A good idea would be to put your links at the end of your content. Your links may work well within your content on your regular site, but they don’t always work well on a mobile site. By placing your links at the bottom of your post or content, you make the site easier for your customers to navigate to.

10. When it comes to navigation on your mobile site, a dropdown or floating navigation system works best. These types of navigation really save a lot of space on the particular mobile device and will make it easier for your customers to use.

Mobile devices are undoubtedly the way of the future. So, don’t lose customers because your website can’t be seen on these kinds of devices. Use these 10 steps to make your site mobile friendly. Make your site user friendly and capture as many customers as you can.
