If you choose to visit this hot spot during the summer, bring your swimsuit and rafting gear. This picturesque city is home to the Colorado River and the Gunnison River. This is perfect for your family members who want to fish all day and those who want to brave the rapids. There are several companies that will take your family members in the wild on a one-time ride through the rapids of the local river. Don’t feel like fishing or braving the rapids, no problem! Highline Lake State Park is right around the corner and offers additional summer recreation for everyone. They offer family favorites like; boating, swimming, bird watching, hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, jet skiing, windsurfing, picnicking, and water skiing, just to name a few.

This is the home of the wonderful Butterfly House. This is a small paradise with butterflies and more than 600 exotic tropical plants from all over the world. Enjoy a quiet moment watching fish, looking for resident frogs, turtles or tree frogs, or watching a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis.

Planning your trip at a colder time of year? Grand Junction offers all the fun winter activities for non-hunters. With Powderhorn Mountain spitting in the distance, your family can go skiing, tubing, or just enjoying the snow. This mountain is full of resorts, lodging and shopping also for non-skiers.

Not a fan of the cold? This is still a family-centric hotspot in the city center, full of fun things to do while others are hunting moose. Grand Junction is known for its wonderful food, so why take your taste buds on a food tour? This tour will teach you about the history and culture of downtown Grand Junction while meeting some of the most popular chefs and restaurateurs in the city.
