Furniture – What the things around us say about us

We are all unique individuals, and this fact is reflected in many aspects of our lives. It shows in how we dress, how we talk, how we comb our hair, etc. Our essence oozes from almost every aspect of our lives. This is also true with the furniture we surround ourselves with. Believe it or not, the way we organize our environments can define us. And not only in style or aesthetics, but also in energy and fluidity, both in layout and appearance. The Chinese gave so much importance to the arrangement of the environment that they developed an entire philosophical system behind it called Feng Shui, which sought to harmonize our existence with the environment that surrounds us. Essentially, our homes, our bedrooms, our offices are all extensions of ourselves. And as such, we must put as much care and maintenance into them as we do our physical bodies.

But don’t think that our furniture and the environments around us are relevant to our own personal energies. Our furniture says a lot about us to other people. By the time you greet someone in your room and invite them to sit on your couch or chair, their mind has unconsciously formed an opinion about what kind of person you are. It is human nature. Are you the nostalgic type who fills your rooms with vintage or retro furniture? Are you super modern in style and personality? Are you romantic or minimalist? As you can see, if you tried to rank your preferred style, you can immediately see that your answer extends beyond the realm of your living room and speaks on a deeper level about you as a person.

When it comes to furniture, there are really two questions to ask yourself:
1. How does your arrangement make me feel?
2. What does the environment say about me to other people?

If you can answer both questions with absolute certainty and confidence, then you have achieved a balance in your environment. If you’re not sure, maybe it’s time to look around you and decide whether or not you’re in line with the energy you want to project. When you achieve harmony, happiness follows.

Take stock of what you place around you. Why did you choose this? What is its value to you? What may appear to be minor or convenient decisions should never be downplayed. Any amount of thought we put into something is a great reflection of our inner selves. And if you are not in an environment that reflects who you are, then you are not in true harmony.
