Firestone Grand Prix
Racing is one of the biggest attractions in sports today. Nascar, Formula One, IndyCar, they are all varieties of auto racing in the United States. One of the biggest events is coming to Florida and it’s the Firestone Grand Prix! Racers from around the world will come to compete in various races, from the main IndyCar race to the IndyCar light and Stadium Super Trucks. It’s a week-long event not to be missed!
A little history about the Grand Prix. It has taken place off and on over the years starting in the early 1990s. It was just a one or two race event at the time, but grew slowly over time. Initially, it was discontinued due to noise complaints, but would return a couple of years later. It has been going very strong since 2003 and has been televised on ESPN, ESPN2, Versus, NBC and several other stations. It has had a few sponsors, the most recent being Honda, but Firestone stepped in this year to ensure the race continues.
There will be all kinds of racing fun at the event. The aforementioned Stadium Super Trucks pit high-powered off-road trucks against each other over jumps, crossovers, and super tight turns. The Pirelli World Challenge uses GT class cars like Corvettes, GT-Rs, Audi R8s and more! And of course there is the main event, the IndyCar Series. It is the premier single-seater race in both the US and Canada. It uses short oval tracks, paths and temporary street tracks. Truly one of the varied and fun institutions of racing.
The fun is not only on the track! There will be autograph opportunities from the drivers and photographs. There will be Beer Gardens, interactive games and racing displays, and live music to kick things off! It’s not just what you do when you watch the race, but where you do it from. There are currently all kinds of viewing packages on offer right now! If you have an office full of racing enthusiasts, you’ll want to purchase the Pit Lane Suite. Overlooking the final bend, it seats 40 people and can be rented for three full days of racing fun. It comes with souvenir programs and a customizable catering menu. If you prefer a more aerial view, they also offer the Rooftop Hospitality Chalets. These seat 50 people and are located in the parking lot of the Mahaffey theater. You can dine while looking out over the IndyCar paddock and you can watch the races from a grandstand! Finally, they also offer space for yachts. You can dock at the pier and cash in on a great vantage point and fantastic deals. You can also just sit courtside or join the VIP club. There are several seating and view options!
