8 simple tips for decorating desserts

Whatever the occasion, birthday party, wedding reception, reunion or baby’s baptism, dessert is often the star of the party. HAS delicious dessert makes a perfect ending to any celebration. Presentation is as important as taste.

Here are some simple tips on how to decorate your favorite desserts:

1. Choose a theme

Before you start decorating of course, make a theme that complements the overall theme of the party or occasion.

2. Make it colorful

A touch of color will bring your desserts to life. Choose colors that complement each other. Explore different tones and shades as long as they complement each other. It would be the best act to attract the guests and keep their appetite by mouth.

One of the easiest ways to decorate a cake or plate is with fruit and nuts. For example, use berries for a delicious semi-sweet chocolate cake, or pineapple, mango and peach slices for a refreshing tropical fruit cake. Crush lots of colored gems and sprinkle them on top of the dessert. Or chop up some nuts like cashews, almonds and sprinkle them on top of your sweet dish to add that touch of elegance.

3. Make it creative like a painting.

There are many ways to compose a plate. Think of the plate as if it were a blank canvas or as if you were composing the frame for a photograph. Adding totally different textures to the plate adds excitement to the visual allure, of course. To illustrate, you could do some meaningful drawings following the theme of the party with your candy on top of the cake.

4. Contrast temperatures

There’s nothing like pairing a warm slice of cake or fruit tart with a cold scoop of frozen dessert. The combination of temperatures is usually easy; however, the veneer will need some thought. Do not place your course on a hot plate. Frozen dessert can go soft too quickly. A cold plate could also come in handy once you serve cold desserts, while hot plates can work well for many cakes or pies.

5. Create a focal point

Using an item in your dessert as a focal point can help focus your plating. Just like any other centerpiece, it should fit and blend well with the overall presentation of the course. Remember, the centerpiece will be the focal point of the dessert, so spend a good amount of time and energy planning one that will appeal to your dessert. Some great ideas include an oversized chocolate fountain, a clear jar filled with fruit, an ice sculpture, etc.

6. Garnish desserts

Think of the dining room once you add the finishing touches to your plate. Consider how the garnish will work in the finished dish. Decorating your desserts with chocolate curls, cocoa powder/icing sugar, berries, dried fruit, mint leaves, fruit slices and nuts adds a touch of glamor to your desserts.

7. Be consistent

When serving desserts to a crowd, be consistent in your style and portion size. It’s often confusing to see a completely different presentation on each plate, and no one likes to see the plate across the table with a portion twice as large.

8. Choose flashy desserts

Last, and certainly not least, you need to choose eye-catching courses to layer on your dessert. With the exception of the center piece, this material is the most ornamental element that will make the dessert look decadent and delicious.

Enjoy preparing the delicious dessert for your party!
