Types of facials for different skin types

Due to continuous exposure to pollution, dust particles, and harmful sun rays, our skin develops wrinkles, dark spots, blackheads, acne, and pigmentation. There are many surgical and non-surgical skin enhancement treatments available to make your skin look rejuvenated, flawless, and youthful. Among the non-surgical category, facials are the most common and popular treatment.

Facial treatments are readily available at beauty salons and spa centers. These are extremely relaxing, rejuvenating and beneficial for the skin. There are many types of facials available, using different techniques and facial kits depending on skin types, desired end results, and skin maturity.

There are two basic techniques used for facials: Hands on and electrotherapy. The ‘hands on’ technique uses special stimulating hand movements and massage movements that remove dead skin from the face, reduce fine lines, stimulate new cell generation and remove blackheads. Electronic handheld electrotherapy devices are used and no hand movements are used. Both have their own specific advantages and benefits.

Manual face treatment:

In these treatments, the therapist or esthetician uses her hands to massage the face. No electronic devices are used in this process except a steam engine.

The facial kits used in these treatments are all oil or cream based. Essential oils, gels or moisturizing creams can be used, depending on skin type, skin maturity and treatment. Gels are mainly used for oily and acne-prone skin and oils or moisturizers are used for dry to normal and mature skin.

A clay or mud-based face mask is used after the cleansing process and steam process (optional) are finished to close open pores and provide nourishment to the skin. Sometimes, for sensitive skin, a peel off face mask is also used. These masks are gently removed from the face after they dry. This exfoliating mask also works as an uplifting treatment as it tightens the skin.

Electrotherapy facial treatment:

These treatments use machines, mostly manual, for facials. Basically, there are three types of electrotherapy treatments most used, depending on the type of skin.

  1. High-frequency treatments: Gauze is placed on the face and a glass electrode is passed over the face. This treatment is more suitable for oily and acne-prone skin, as it helps dry out blemishes and has antibacterial effects. For dry to normal skin, an indirect frequency treatment is used.
  2. Galvanic Treatments: An active ingredient is introduced deep into the skin of the face using metal rollers that massage the skin. Suitable for all skin types.
  3. Microcurrent Treatments: This facial treatment is used to firm facial skin and improve skin texture and color.

All of the facials mentioned above help improve the texture, quality, and appearance of facial skin, giving you a more youthful, flawless appearance.
