The Lonesome Wild-West, a book review

The other day, I was talking to an acquaintance at the nearby local coffee shop. They were reading a book, they stopped to look out the window and we started with the niceties, “good weather” etc. I asked if it was a good book and they held it up and said; “Okay, but I like westerns, I thought I’d try this, but if it doesn’t get better soon, I’m going to throw it away,” and then they asked me if I knew of any good Westerns. “Yes, I actually do,” so I made a suggestion. Let’s talk now, maybe you too would like to hear about this.

One of the best Western books I have ever read, and one that I highly recommend is a long read, almost a week in your spare time, and well worth your attention, it is a lot like reading Gone With the Wind, for what you might think its 850+ pages make it a true ass smasher, you would be wrong to judge it as such. This is a book that I have and is on my shelf as proof of my love for history and our Western American cultural ancestry. The name of the book is:

“Lonesome Dove: A Novel” by Larry McMurtry, Simon and Schuster Publishers, New York, NY, 2010, 864 pages, ISBN: 978-1439195260.

Like Gone With the Wind, you could classify this as a love story, so not only do you share the full length, but you may like that angle as well. Of course, it is also an adventure that takes place in the wild landscape of the frontier of time. This book is often considered a Western classic and is well labeled as such. This is a book in a series, and the name of the book is also the name of the small town, if it can be called that by today’s standards, where the tale takes place. It is dusty, windy and harsh, a place where the weak will not survive well.

This ancient western city has all the appropriate characteristics of a western setting; the tavern, the prostitutes, the thieves, the cattlemen, the settlers, the Indians, the criminal elements and the bailiff. There is drama, passion, intrigue, honor and criminality. As conflicts arise and things get complicated, you begin to understand the way of life in this version of the Wild West, along with a nice history lesson as you go, but you have to wait to see how it all works out in more. books. , which you will want to read after finishing this one. Consider all of this and think about it.
