Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant Program

The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, also known as US HUD, is a cabinet department in the executive branch of the United States federal government.

HUD’s efforts are focused on creating strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable housing for all.

HUD recently announced a funding opportunity titled the Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant Program.

This program aims to increase regional planning efforts that integrate investment decisions in housing, transportation, economic development, and environmental infrastructure, in order to increase the country’s capacity to incorporate livability, sustainability, and social equity into plans. land use and zoning.

The Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant Program may also coordinate closely with the US Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency.

The Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant Program comes with an estimated budget of $67 million for fiscal year 2011.

Award grants will be in the form of cooperative agreements, while award amounts will vary by category, depending on the population or number of inhabitants of an eligible community.

Interested applicants should apply electronically on the HUD website. The deadline for submitting applications will be October 6, 2011.

For this program, eligible applicants are multi-jurisdictional, multi-sector associations that contain a consortium of government entities and non-profit partners.
